An aquarium is not complete without live plants in it. Whether it’s a salt water or freshwater aquarium; for decorative, house pet, or research purposes, live plants make your aquarium look healthy and original. However you should be very careful with the plants that you choose. The plants that you choose should be naturally found in your fish’s original habitat even if your fish has never lived there. And they should be freshwater plant species and not terrestrial plant species. So what are the aquatic live plants that would keep your freshwater aquarium in best shape? |
These are the best freshwater aquarium plants that will keep your freshwater aquarium robust.
1. Water Lily and Aponogeton

They have bigger flowers, stems, and leaves. They will adorn your landscape with colors and their parts will be a haven for your fishes.
2. Azolla and Salvinia
These two are examples of floating freshwater aquarium plants. Like the water lilies and aponogetons they are fitted for your water gardens and koi ponds. Azollas and Silvinias are floating freshwater aquarium plants that will carpet your pond with tiny leaves and flowers.
3. Anubias and African Fern
You may also opt for freshwater aquarium plants with thick, horizontal stems. They are called the Rhizomes. By just tying them up onto your driftwood, these fresh water aquarium plants could spread over the surface of your substrate effortlessly.

At times freshwater aquarium plants can be demanding but when you see the exquisiteness they bring to your aquariums, you'll realize they are worth the effort!
